From aware, to active in as few as 140 characters

I loved Chris Brogan's post today about the importance of not only being aware/empathetic toward a cause, but actually taking action.

"This, to me, is where marketing has a big responsibility and/or opportunity. We need to get you from the “I feel bad about this” to the “I can help in some small – or big! – way, by doing ____.” It’s just not enough to feel aware only. To me."

Its amazing how easy supporting a cause has become using social media outlets.  As a fellow philanthropy enthusiast I left a short comment:

"Great post. This is where social media tools can really make a difference. A lot of people give Twitter a bad rap saying its just a way to tell people what you ate for breakfast - but this is a prime example of where Twitter, and other social media tools can make a difference. People can easily contribute to a cause simply by spreading the word and making others aware (just like you did, Chris, with your blog post!). There is no longer the excuse "I'm just one person, I can't make a difference" because with one tweet or post the snowball starts rolling and picking up speed. We have seen this in the recent Haiti relief efforts where millions of dollars were raised using Twitter alone.

Social media tools enable us to go from simply aware, to active in as little as 140 characters."
